Lifestyle Class - Week 2 Homework

This week in my class, we first focused on "Point of View" - trying to look at things from more than just the eye-level, ho-hum angle.  I've annoyed and alienated at least two of my children this weekend, following them around with the camera, begging for "just one more shot... or else!"  Momma's not above a little blackmail, if it gets me what I need!  :o)  I would have gotten the third child, but he and the hubby went camping (meaning they huddled in the trailer most of the weekend while the rain and snow fell).  I also tried some shots of the doggies, but they're just too quick for me, so I'm settling on some shots of Savannah doing her hair - something that she spends roughly 3.2 hours of each day working on...

This last one she had kicked me out of the room, then thought she was clever by opening both doors to the medicine cabinet to block my view.  Guess I showed her!

The second part of our assignment this week was to focus on "Less is More," taking the big picture of our "story" and then narrowing it down to the small details.  Since it was Memorial Day weekend, I took the opportunity to visit my grandparents' graves.

Finally, even though it's not part of the assignment, no Memorial Day post could be complete without a giant "Thank You" to all our veterans, both past and present. These are for you:

Laughed when I got to the cemetery. You left yellow flowers and I left purple irises. We hit mom's favorite colors just right. And they looked great together.

great job this week - love the annoyed look of your daughter - cant wait till my daughter gets to that point, she already stops to look at her reflection in all doors, windows etc. yikes! i really loved your reduction photos and i know it wasnt part of the homework but the last shot of the flag was powerful!

Your daughter is beautiful and your images capture the daily hair routine so well. I particularly love your 2nd shot where you are looking down and she is looking up. It's hard to get all the hands and arm in when in that position, I think, but you did it.

The flag shots speak profoundly and I so appreciate seeing them, even though they're extra credit ;). Of the cemetery shots, the one of the lane leading the eye back into the cemetery caught my eye particularly.

I'm sure when your beautiful daughter is much older she'll cherish these pictures of her teen routines ;). Great use of different point of views... I especially like the 2nd image; no cut-offs of her hands or arms, the hair styling tools in the background share in the moment. I also enjoy your shot where you're peeking through! Great use of framing.

From your "Less is More", I love the images of the path between the trees, to the lowest perspective of your grandparents gravesite.

These are fun shots. I totally get the attitude from your daughter as you lurk around with your camera..... I also have a daughter (18)!
